This week
We meet the first of a multitude of characters Wyze has to offer, Einn.
Session 0
One thing that can get a bit tedious with Mythic is how much Book keeping there can be especially when you take the traditional approach to building characters the way you would in the Red book. That is why I am going to be treating my characters like Factions from the Mythic Mass Combat System in Mythic Magazine #33.
I've built characters using ICRPG, Frostgrave,PBTA, DnD and even tried Mythic RPG 1e. Of all the systems I have used ICRPG has been one of the most streamlined character creations I've experienced, even more so when using the Tags hack. Which is basically the same as a Faction Descriptor. All this will make sense as we go along. You are welcome to follow along and build your character with me if you like. You can find all the tables in our LAST POST, HERE. Or if you rather just skip to having a complete character you can jump into the action with you can click, HERE. Just make sure you add your character in the comment section! So let's get cracking with our Characters.
First question is do they have access to Snarl, magic. In this world you are either born with it, have it dormant or not at all.
🎲4
🎲4-Snarl-touched: One Attuned to the Snarl.
🎲3-Keen: Dormant Snarl affinity.
🎲2-Unkeen: Regular humanoid.
🎲1-Rabid: One over come by Snarl.
If we roll a 1 then we will roll again to confirm. On another 1 We will take a page from the DCC funnel and play out the scene of our Character being taken over by Snarl. A fate worse than death some say.
d🎲4- Snarl Touched
Lucky much?
I want to play with a Duo so we will roll twice for everything. However, I think I will do something new and keep our Session Zero for each Character separate. I think I rushed too much in the past, taking advice from some of the great Soloist out there. Everything is Solo play, Whether you are making Characters, worldbuilding, diving into lore and history of an item or a bloodline. It all is Solo play. Hopefully you enjoy the slower pace.
Now let's roll up Name, Background, personality, appearance and description for our character. This is mainly cosmetic detail for roleplay, but can tell us much.
Name: Einn
Bg: Union Inquisitor [Legal,Youth]
Persona: Ambitious Tolerant
Appearance & Description: Tall Elegant Striking Tattoo
Sometimes the dice are on our side. The worldbuilding we did in Ysdelfer is our contextual Springboard here. I Immediately think of The Union when it comes to legal, much of the world laws revolve around Ys and water as it were. Ambition and Youth made me think of a rookie officer or lawyer. So Our first Character is a Young Union Inquisitor. This in and of itself informs so much about this Character.
Ambition and youth both lend themselves to conflict well, especially when dealing with the law or organized power.
Mythic says, ‘Each Faction is detailed by three Descriptors, the three most important characteristics of the Faction whether they be beneficial or detrimental.’ That sounds a lot like traits and flaws to me. So for our characters we will roll on the Traits and Flaws table. We will also roll on the Skill table. I prefer even numbers So we will use Four Descriptors for our purposes.
As a note I am using the Mythic app and as such will only show results as 🎲[word, word]. I don't believe the number results line up with the printed tables exactly.
Skills
•🎲[Bestow,Beginner]+2: Makes me think he is a fast learner
•🎲[Trick,Active] +1: Sleight of hand?
Traits & Flaws
•🎲[Loyal,Loyal] 0/-1: A loyalist to the Union cause which is a highly situational trait
•🎲[Power, Tough] +3 : Highly adept in Snarl
Einn is shaping up to be rather interesting. Since he is Snarl-touched he can manipulate the world of Wyze. I have decided to create our own magic tradition for Snarl. Using Mythic Magazine #21
SNARL
Interacting with the alien energy of Wyze is a delicate dance. The Snarl is alive, responsive and unpredictable. Practitioners must be adaptable as they walk a fine line between Order and Bedlam.
Casting Time: 10 seconds
Duration: 1 hour
Enhancers: •Primordial Oath- Forming agreements with the ancient Snarl-touched entities can help balance the consequences but often at a significant cost.
• Old World Artifacts- Using artifacts from ancient times can serve as conduits to absorb or redirect the Snarl's effects, mitigating the potential harm.
Limiters: Misalignment- Snarl's sentient Nature also makes it fickle. All spells are Personal, -1RS.
Penalty: •Gnashing Echo- Misuse of Snarl magic can give rise to a Gnashing Echo, a sentient force that actively seeks to counteract the caster's intentions.
•Harmonic Scarring- Excessive reliance on Snarl magic results in physical and mental backlash, manifesting as illness, mutations, or local hauntings.
I took some inspiration from Star Wars and The Speed Force. I love the idea of the world being inherently magical and magic being less of a tool and more of Something you must learn to harmonize with. The Snarl is Not good or evil, it just is like an alien force of nature.
Now let's find out how Einn shows up as a practitioner. I'm going to roll Three Spell effects these will be the core kit of Einn's Snarl. Treating these as Descriptors we will add modifiers, and use these as context for our magic moving forward. Allowing us to be flexible.
•🎲[Summon,Disease] +1
•🎲[Shield,Transform]+3
•🎲[Trigger, loud] +2
All that is left is to take our modifiers and see what the average Pwr of Einn is.

Sometimes it can take a few rolls and/or multiple questions to flesh out an idea. This was one of those times, a bit tricky but I think I got it. Let's play it out in the fiction.
In Baaskqir, the sun blazed down mercilessly, transforming the vibrant city into a languid maze of alabaster and pastel. The oppressive heat seemed to press down on everything, smothering the usual energy of the Final Bastion into a sluggish, heavy air.
Old man Ontuya, his face etched with lines of time and toil, wiped the sweat from his leathery brow. As he bent over to hitch his cart, a sharp ache coursed through his back, a testament to his years. His mind, clouded by the stifling heat, momentarily forgot the Baboondogs tethered to the cart. These creatures, usually loyal and calm, sensed their master's distraction and grew restless.
Without warning, Ontuya was blindsided. A powerful force knocked him to the ground, the hot sand burning against his skin. His Baboondogs, now frenzied, leaped upon him, their playful nature forgotten in the confusion.
From the corner of the street, a figure emerged with a swift predatory grace. His tall frame cut through the sluggish crowd like a knife His eyes, alight with youthful zeal and magical energy, fixed upon the chaos before him.
He called upon the Snarl energies, winds rose from the ground, gathering the sand into a vortex. The sands spun in a dance, driven by his will. A local dust devil formed, its size growing with each passing second. The dust devil acted as a distraction, enveloping the creatures in a veil of confusion. Their eyes stung, and their noses filled with the gritty taste of sand, made them cease their attack and cower.
The Baboondogs whined and howled disoriented, With a swift, decisive motion, his fingers splayed wide. He directed the dust devil, creating a barrier between the animals and their fallen master. Ensuring it was forceful enough to keep the Baboondogs at bay but cause little to no harm. The beasts’ senses thoroughly muddled he moved closer. Arms extended the dust devil grew larger as the cyclone came to a slow the sands settling to the ground.
The figure approached, his presence commanding yet gentle. With a series of soft commands and subtle gestures, he soothed the Baboondogs with the ease of a seasoned beastmaster."You ought to be careful, Uncle." he said, his voice firm but reassuring. "No doubt the heat has them agitated."
Einn, the young Inquisitor, bore a bright smile as he knelt beside Ontuya, who lay stunned but unharmed. As the last of the swirling sands settled, the onlookers, who had been watching in awe, broke into murmurs of admiration and respect.
“That's Einn…" they said.
